Using Java Plug-in

We experienced lots of trouble trying to make JC_Mortgage (written in JDK 1.1) work with different kinds and different version of browsers. We concluded that in order to achieve "Write once run everywhere" for Java Applets the best way is to use Java Plug-in from Sun. With Java Plug-in, applets will run inside Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) instead of the web browser's default virtual machine.

Java Plug-in 1.1.2 provides support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 or later on Win32 platforms (Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0), and Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later on Win32 and Solaris platforms (Solaris 2.5 and 2.6). Upon encountering a web page that specifies Java Plug-in, the browser will download and install all the necessary files and render the applet, requiring minimal user intervention
